Optimizing Human Behavior in the Call Center

with Reduced Stress, Disruptions and Conflicts

The idea is typically that the behavior of an individual adheres to the same fundamental principles in a number of different areas--- OR, can we break the pattern were most comfortable with? "Economy is the art of making the most of life".

Helping Coworkers

We all have busy lives. Most times we find that we need a vacation from our vacations. The fact is that the 'working-world' demands so much that workers can rarely, if ever, leave at the end of the day having completed everything with the ability to start fresh the next day. Similarly, call centers are busy environments. Sales have to keep going onward and upward.

AOL Customer Rep Shows Service

Contract Providers What Not To Do

Most providers of service contracts do not need this lesson. Most human beings do on need this lesson. But this transcript, reported by CNBC, is amusing -- if not infuriating -- for anybody who's ever tried to cancel an AOL account.

I'm not saying that this behavior is indicative of AOL representatives, and in fact I have had some good exchanges with AOL. I do, however, remember that canceling my AOL account was a brutal process that involved being forwarded to multiple departments. Something told me, as I waited on hold for each of those departments, that AOL would have been more accommodating if I had called to upgrade.

Vincent Ferrari, an AOL subscriber for five years, had heard that canceling an account can be a difficult process, reports CNBC. So he decided to record his attempt to cancel AOL service. Here is an edited down version of the transcript.

Skills Lack Clouds Call-Center Boom

In a sprawling office in the Philippine financial district of Makati, rows and rows of Filipinos sit in front of computers answering calls made by Americans. Although answering calls from the other side of the world may sound too simple, call centers have become a "sunrise industry" in this country. The government sees it as the growth driver of the economy.

The emergence of BPOs (business-process outsourcing) is one of the reasons our economy is holding on despite a lot of difficulties. The BPO industry opens up a whole new world of employment opportunities for Filipinos, generating millions of pesos for the country’s economic stability. The BPO industry includes contact call centers, medical transcription, legal transcription and translated legal document editing, animation and other art services, various other back-office services like bookkeeping and auditing, TV services like dubbing and close- captioning and software development and other service activities that are information technology intensive.

Win/Win!

The Art of Negotiating Conflicts

Win/win is an attitude, not an outcome. - Don Boyd

As long as there is life, there will always be conflicts to resolve. This truth is both universal and infinite!

Out of the crib and into the grave...conflicts do exist and it is the way of mankind to resolve our differences and learn and grow from them.

Some conflicts often do not have immediate solutions and the parties involved more often than not go through multiple stages of conflicts and their negotiations.

Months or years before you were born, your life was already a subject of discussion. Most certainly, your parents discussed what hospital to rush to for your delivery and discussed this with your mom’s doctor. Dad and Mom also talked about options with respect to the available finances anf resources. They also discussed with the doctor the possibility of a normal or caesarian delivery. In all these, the doctor and your parents might have different opinions and preferences. They all were after the best options according to how they saw it.
