Does your call center use a mentoring program to aid in reducing employee attrition? Here is an article by Debbie Norris on the subject of employee mentoring programs.

Employee mentoring programs have been touted as being a major factor in employee retention and increased profitability and productivity within a company.

These programs allow long standing employees to have a chance to prove their worth and share their expertise with less experienced employees. Personal relationships are developed and the overall morale of the company will increase.

Begin by determining what kind of mentoring is most needed within your workplace. In some cases, employee peer mentoring programs are the most effective programs, while in others, an employee-management mentoring program is a better choice.

This determination can be made by deciding exactly what issues need to be addressed and who will be the best to provide guidance. Approach employees who excel in the problem areas and pair them with those who are weaker.

Another popular way of implementing employee mentor programs is to pair up all new hires with someone who is experienced in their position. They will have the feeling of having someone on their side from the beginning, plus will have the benefit of one on one training in their new position, by someone who understands the daily workings of your business.

One of the most important things to remember when developing a strategy for mentoring employees is to give them a reason to want to participate in the program. Have some kind of incentive for employees who volunteer to mentor their peers, beyond the intrinsic benefits of giving back to their coworkers.

Also plan events or other special programs for those who are working together in the mentoring program. This will not only be a fun incentive, but give them opportunities to develop a stronger relationship, outside of the office.

Before starting an employee mentoring program for your company, take the time to evaluate the specific needs of your business and identify problem areas within your workforce. By knowing what needs should be addressed beforehand, you can tailor your company mentoring program to create solutions for your company’s largest needs.

This will not only have to increase the success of your mentoring program, but will also help to improve your overall business success.
